They’re made from different materials. Laminate flooring is made of layers. The primary layer (the core) is made of high-density fiberboard that gives laminate flooring its rigidity and strength. LVT is made in layers as well; its primary component is PVC vinyl, which makes LVT dimensionally stable and flexible.
They install differently. Laminate flooring is a floating-floor system that should never be nailed or glued to the subfloor. Some LVT products now offer a floating-floor approach to installation, but generally LVT dry back installs as a glue-down system by the application of a separate adhesive or the use of peel-and-stick tiles or planks.
They feel different. Because laminate flooring is made primarily from wood, it feels like wood. LVT is made out of vinyl and feels like plastic.

Laminate is typically made from HDF or high-density fiberboard, which is made up of recycled hardwood. Laminate is not waterproof so it is not recommended to install this product in high-moisture or humid areas or places that often have spills like in supermarkets or in restaurants. Laminate is best to install in climate-controlled areas.
Vinyl, however, is a much different story. Parterre vinyl in particular is a hard, closed-cell vinyl allowing for the product to be more water resistant and ideal for higher-moisture areas. A sealant is not required for vinyl, but is recommended for high-moisture areas for an added layer of protection.
Laminate is a hard product, but tends to also be hollow. It is important that the subfloor underneath is smooth and even. Vinyl is ideal for heavy trafficked areas due to its ability to expand and contract. And, both are very easy to clean.

LVT flooring, which stands for Luxury Vinyl Tile. It is a type of durable, low-maintenance flooring that offers the appearance of real wood or stone, or introduces a striking abstract look. At the same time, it offers numerous benefits including lower cost, improved scratch resistance, and waterproof performance. LVT includes a photographic print layer to capture the realistic looks and a wear layer for increased durability. It’s available in planks or tiles.
-
LVT is available in many sizes and formats and can be used for numerous flooring projects. Depending on the type of space and what the space will be used for, it’s important to consider wear layer thickness, wear layer performance characteristics, total product thickness, and what the LVT product is recommended for; as all LVT products are not the same.
LVT comes in different thickness options. You can choose one to fit the needs of any space, including thicker profiles designed for an easy transition to carpet.
Wear layers in 12, 20, 30 and 40 mil offer you options to choose the right performance level for your commercial flooring project. The higher the mil, the more suitable the product is for heavy traffic.
For example, a 12mil product is suitable for residential use, so you do not want to put it in an area with heavy foot or rolling traffic.

Realistic designs and textures
One of the benefits of LVT flooring is that it comes in realistic plank, herringbone and tile formats in a wide choice of designs that appeal to your own tastes and trends.
Easy Installation
A benefit of LVT flooring is how much faster and easier it is to install when compared to natural stone and wood.
Unique Properties
There are many other benefits of LVT flooring, namely its waterproof properties and the fact that it is both warmer and softer than regular tiles and laminate.
Easy Maintenance
LVT flooring delivers stylish, long-lasting looks with far easier cleaning and none of the ongoing maintenance issues of real wood flooring. Luxury vinyl tile ultimately offers a wide design scope for any room within the home as well as a range of commercial applications.
Durability
LVT is strong and able to withstand heavy foot traffic. Additionally, it is water-resistant, making it an excellent choice for many areas that are prone to moisture issues, but adhesive must also be taken into consideration in those environments. Depending on the type of wear layer, most LVT is scuff, stain, and scratch-resistant, improving its wear and performance.
